In a way, it feels like society never left March-as if the month had an iron grip on everyone's life and stopped time itself. And yet, here we are again: only a few days away from the infamous month.
With a surging pandemic (still), it feels as if we are all living in a dystopian version of reality; masks, vaccines, restrictions, and the uneasiness of living in a politically divided nation. Political division will always occur when people are able to choose; however, no one expected the scale of insurrection that would happen on January 6th. The affects of that day will live on, not only in history, but in the lives of those involved in it.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was generous enough to share her experience during an instagram live-feed, and her heart-wrenching encounter stirred the hearts of everyone who watched the social media event. Well, almost everyone...
Some people took to YouTube to express their opinions regarding AOC's truth; many sided on the narrative of "she's acting childish" or "she's only doing this for attention". While these opinions are, well, opinions, right-winged media outlets have swayed headlines to appeal to these narratives. An article on FOX news reads as, "AOC Says She's a Survivor of Sexual Assault: She was talking about fears during the riot of the Capitol". While this article provides factual information regarding the incident, it uses wording to sway readers towards the narrative of Democrats attempting to gain political advantage via the events of January 6th.

ReplyDeleteI would say that both the headline and the article provide factual information. Furthermore, Fox News is certainly acknowledged as a right of center news organization. It only follows that the stories they put out will likely have at least a touch of right of center spin or, at the very least, not a left of center spin. There are certainly better examples of right of center pundits and otherwise giving much more biased takes on AOC’s live-stream. It also seems to be settled knowledge that the Democrats are using the event of January 6th to their political advantage; why wouldn’t they? When you have the opportunity to take the moral high ground in politics, you take it.
